Crafters Everywhere
We all have those friends. The ones who like to brag about what they’ve “made”. They compliment you, only to get you to compliment them, and then they tell you all about what ever they have “made.” What does it even mean to make something? Nowadays it seems like every single teenage girl is the most creative person in the entire world and they “make” everything. In case you didn’t know, when you cut up a pair of your old jeans and turn them into shorts it is altering an existing piece of clothing. Altering jeans doesn’t measure up to a dress I made from fabric and thread. I have been sewing for five and a half years and when you show me your shirt that you tie-dyed while I’m wearing a cardigan that I spent 8 hours on, I am going to be offended. Before you call me out, yes- I have altered jeans and tie-dyed a shirt and no- I am not saying that you are not creative if you have created these things. All I am saying is that people who have actually make stuff do not like when you are begging for our attention for something we could “make” in our sleep. Next time you want to flaunt your DIY hair bow, remember you might not be the only crafty person in the room.
You have a very good point. Everybody has a different crafting style and that's good. Nice article.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with this! Every time you go on a social media site some girl has claimed that she is crafty because she made three little hair bows out of duct tape, but in reality anyone can do that. It takes real skill and practice to be able to make clothing, bags, and décor items. I hope that these so called "crafters" start to see that they aren't really crafters, they just made a craft.
ReplyDeleteAMEN! Finally someone has said it and I couldn't agree more. Hopefully more girls will realize this and I think it's very cool how you sew and make your own clothing!
ReplyDeleteNicely said! I think that people do this to get recognition for what they thought was amazing, they might want you to say that its great so they can feel good about themselves, I know that sometimes I do this, and its kind of embarrassing but we all need recognition sometimes, right? But, you definitely stated what most people think and do!
ReplyDeleteI never really thought of it like that. I'll keep it in mind next time. It's also really cool that you sew your own clothing.
